2019 Château Lafite-Rothschild - Subskription - Château Lafite Rothschild - Rotwein

In terms of flavor profile, this is a surprisingly (atypically) hedonic, forward expression, with notably lower acidity/higher pH (the pH is 3.9). What an exciting paradox for the palate—bravo! The Merlot in the 2019 grand vin is a “new wine” of Merlot for Lafite, according to technical director Eric Kohler. This makes a new Merlot lot for us. Elegance and complexity with finesse. The alcohol is 13.4%, just a tick higher than the 2018 (13.3%). Graphite and tar. The amounts were too little to be vinified separately, so they used to go into the blends. Stunning. One half of the 5% Merlot in this blend is from plots that have never before been used in Lafite's 1st wine, because their drone and satellite research discovered three tiny areas that were similar in character and could be vinified together. A brilliant wine, one that could be upscored from this when in bottle. 6/5/2020 Wine Advocate WINE ADVOCATE (LISA PERROTTI-BROWN) : 97-99 / 100 The 2019 Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, harvested from the 19th of September to the 7th of October. The spicy rosemary and black pepper, with slate-textured minerality, is almost unnoticeable until it closes in on the final stretch, helping to stretch things out, beat by beat, adding energy and lift. It goes on for minutes. Medium-bodied, the palate is at once ethereally graceful and powerfully intense, featuring layer upon layer of profound smoky, savory flavors and decadently ripe fruit, framed by exquisite, silt-like tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with epic length. It's full-bodied, yet shows such harmony and polish. This addition of the new Merlot helped keep the balance.” Regarding the 2019 vintage of Lafite’s very popular second wine: “This is the first time we used this much Cabernet Sauvignon in the Carruades blend,” Kohler told me. “Often, it was the same choice. The tannins are so integrated and endless. It just holds on tight, with a creaminess that you don't always find in Lafite at this early stage. Now, we have identified three plots of Merlot to co-vinify. Harvest September 19 to October 7. Incredible. This year, this Merlot blend was just perfect for the grand vin. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls effortlessly out of the glass with compelling notions of baked black cherries, ripe blackberries and crème de cassis followed by hints of mocha, licorice, smoked meats and Sichuan pepper with a waft of eucalyptus. It is even more like Lafite this year!” 6/4/2020 DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 98 / 100 Performs the trick of being immediately succulent and mouthwatering while simultaneously revving up and building power through the palate. Drinking Window 2029 - 2048 6/4/2020 JAMESSUCKLING.COM (JAMES SUCKLING) : 99-100 / 100 Complex aromas of blackcurrants and lead pencil. Usually it is more like 55% Cabernet with more Merlot. They have worked on this for the past three years, successfully so for first time in 2019. 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot.. And yet, the tannins here are unmistakably Lafite, featuring all the tannic grace, finesse and densely pixilated poise fans will expect. You're getting sapidity and savoury black fruits that are both elegant and full of power. “Before, we only had three tanks of Merlot to choose from,” he explained

2019 Château Mouton-Rothschild - Subskription - Château Mouton Rothschild - Rotwein

The finish here just keeps on going. The Grand Vin was produced from 51% of the crop with yields of only 40 hectoliters per hectare. (For number crunchers, the alcohol is 13.5% this year, slightly lower than 2018, which came in at 13.8%.) “The grand vin has 90% Cabernet Sauvignon this year—among the highest percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon ever used—with less Merlot, just 9% Merlot,” technical director Philippe Dhalluin told me. Drinking Window 2030 - 2050 5/20/2020 Quarin JEAN-MARC QUARIN (JEAN-MARC QUARIN) : 97 / 100 18,5. Extremely persistent. With a high proportion of Cabernet in the blend, the wine is produced from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, reaching 13.5 alcohol. Has a feel of the 1996 about it. The 90% of cabernet sauvignon really makes this special. This year's profound expression is without doubt a legend in the making. Lead-pencil, tar and licorice notes. The plateau of Carruades gives such an excellent style of tannins to Mouton!” Mouton’s grand vin is unquestionably one of the wine’s of the vintage, but I was surprised by the high quality of the estate’s dry white wine. “In the end, the Semillon was such excellent quality. 6/10/2020 The Wine Cellar Insider THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 98-100 / 100 Deeply colored, the intoxicating, aromatic profile provides essences of mint, Asian spice, blackberry, cassis, cigar box, smoke and lead pencil. The biggest difference in the styles is the tannins, Petit Mouton’s are usually not as refined. The tannins are ripe and fleshed out, taking a confident hold around well-textured blackberry and cassis fruits that are fluid, supple and frankly delicious. Classically styled, but classic in a good way, the wine is showy, but not flamboyant. Powerful with finesse. We build the blends of Mouton and Petit Mouton together. Opaque purple-black colored, the 2019 Mouton Rothschild simply shines, even at this very nascent stage, beaming from the glass with bright, vibrant scents of crème de cassis, blueberry preserves, boysenberries and black raspberries plus fragrant suggestions of lilacs, dark chocolate, sandalwood, jasmine tea and woodsmoke with a spicy waft of star anise. 6/4/2020 DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 98 / 100 A deep intense nose, this is another brilliant Pauillac First Growth in 2019, all different in style and true to themselves. “Aile d’Argent for us was such a great surprise this year,” Dhalluin agreed with me. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with energy, featuring tightly wound layers of black fruits, exotic spices and mineral notions, framed by exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with epic length and perfume. There’s a hint of exotic Muscat character in there. Toasted and roasted. “The Merlot was very good, maybe the best since 2010, but the Cabernet Sauvignon was just too good. Harvest September 19 to October 5 (finishing a little earlier that Clerc and Armailhac because Mouton is always an early terroir due to its abundance of pure gravel). On the palate, the wine is rich, lush, round, full-bodied and concentrated, with layers of lusciously textured, ripe, sweet, fresh, pure dark red pit fruits and blackberries. Generally, Petit Mouton comes from the border of this plot of excellence we use for the Mouton. Really, it is an excellent vintage for this wine too—usually, odd vintages produce exceptional characters in Aile d’Argent!” 6/4/2020 JAMESSUCKLING.COM (JAMES SUCKLING) : 99-100 / 100 This shows purity of fruit with blackcurrants and cassis and hints of blueberries and fresh flowers. This year they are very different styles. Usually, great red wine years do not make such impressive whites. This is pure Mouton, you couldn't mistake it, with its touch of mocha and chocolate, and its core of freshness. The harvest took place September 18-October 5. But this year is different—more of this good Merlot. 98-100 Pts 6/9/2020 Wine Advocate WINE ADVOCATE (LISA PERROTTI-BROWN) : 98-100 / 100 The blend this year is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, harvested from the 18th of September to the 5th of October

2018 Château Mouton-Rothschild - Subskription - Château Mouton Rothschild - Rotwein

In 2018, Mouton is radiant, sensual and impeccable in its balance, even if it doesn't possess the sheer visceral thrill, energy or pedigree of truly great vintages. The most backward and reserved of the First Growths, this deeply colored beauty boasts a rich, layered bouquet of blackcurrants, graphite, scorched earth, and liquid violets. The naturally flamboyant nature of Mouton Rothschild comes though loud and clear. 3.78pH. The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. It is dense, concentrated and intensely structured in bold tannins, but still the purity of the dark shines through. There is the tiniest touch of Petit Verdot in the blend but under 1% so it’s not in the official figures. The wine is lavish, dense, concentrated and showy. 100% new oak which has been beautifully integrated. Grapes were harvested September 10 to October 3, and the wine was blended at the beginning of December; it has 13.8% alcohol, and the tannins were slightly higher this year. 4/17/2019 DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 99 / 100 This has incredible persistency and density of flavour in 2018. 5/7/2019 WeinWisser WEINWISSER : 20 / 20 5/1/2019 Vinous VINOUS (ANTONIO GALLONI) : 94-97 / 100 The 2018 Mouton Rothschild is dense and unctuous in the glass, with striking textural depth and plenty of overall intensity. 4/23/2019 Wine Advocate WINE ADVOCATE (LISA PERROTTI-BROWN) : 97-99 / 100 The 2018 Mouton Rothschild is composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc—there is also a splash of all the Petit Verdot they had, but it doesn’t even register in the percentage. The artist design for the 2018 label will be revealed later. There is plenty of tannin, but it is nearly buried by the sheer voluptuousness of the fruit. 62% of production went into the grand vin. The finish remains with you for well over 60 seconds. 96-98+ 4/24/2019 La Revue du Vin de France LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE : 19,5-20 / 20 4/23/2019 The Wine Cellar Insider THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 98-100 / 100 Opaque in color, the purple black hue is gorgeous. 88IPT. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers waves of opulent, spiced black and blue fruits with seamless acid lifting this gorgeous mouthfeel that is at once plush from the ripe fruit and firm and grainy from the super ripe tannins, finishing very long and wonderfully creamy. The perfume with its sea salt, lead pencil, blackberry liqueur, black currants, tobacco, spice and smoke is a knockout! That will keep you busy enough but it is on the palate where you'll really experience the wine as it hits and coats every nook and cranny in your mouth. It’s extremely well knitted with everything drawn out and taut through the mid palate, slowly layering on the succulent, plump notes of damson, juice-filled blackberries, charcoal, menthol, cigar box, pencil lead and black chocolate that is a signature of the vintage. The alcohol, while still very balanced compared to most in the vintage, is unusually high at Mouton because, as managing director Philippe Dhalluin says; ‘usually the poor soils at Mouton mean the grapes make tannins but not sugar, but in 2018 they made both’. Even with all this voluptuousness, the wine is energetic and intense. 4/12/2019 JAMESSUCKLING.COM (JAMES SUCKLING) : 100 / 100 I am . Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and sweet spice infuse a Mouton that stands out for its unctuousness and fruit intensity. The blend comes from 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc and reached 13.8% alcohol. I always love that this property shares the same gravel-filled plateau as Lafite and yet the two have such different personalities and interpretations of vintages – with Mouton here absorbing the richness of the year and adding a touch of glamour into the wine as always. Clearly, the 2018 is going to be one of the great vintages of Mouton ever produced. Deep purple-black in color, it is a little closed to begin compared to some 2018s, slowly unfurling to reveal a profound nose of warm black plums, blackcurrant cordial, star anise, blueberry pie and mocha with suggestions of candied violets, oolong tea, camphor and unsmoked cigars plus a touch of crushed rocks. 4/17/2019 Wine Enthusiast WINE ENTHUSIAST (ROGER VOSS) : 97-99 / 100 This wine is ripe and juicy, packed with black fruits and generous tannins that sit on a velvety texture. 5/1/2019 Jeb DUNNUCK JEB DUNNUCK (JEB DUNNUCK) : 96-98 / 100 Representing 76% of the total production, the 2018 Mouton-Rothschild checks in as 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc brought up in new oak. The harvest took place from September 10 to October 3, the Grand Vin represents 66% of the harvest with very low yields of only 28 hectoliters per hectare. Deep, full-bodied, and seamless on the palate, it's more elegant than the opulently styled 2016, but it’s still an incredibly powerful and promising Mouton that’s going to live for half a century or more

Rothschild Merlot Igp 2019 - Rotwein - Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Frankreich, trocken, 0,75l
